Pro Circuit Radar: Alexander Butenko vs. Gunnar Nelson in Contest of Rising European Welterweights

British mixed martial arts promotion Cage Contender will host their twelfth event, Cage Contender 12, on February 25th. The show presents a stacked card, which includes a not-to-miss clash of two quickly rising welterweight fighters, Ukrainian Alexander Butenko and Gunnar Nelson of Iceland.

These two fighters are getting nods on the Euro scene as big stage potentials. Both fighters are BJJ black belts with highly competitive grappling experience. Nelson holds placewinning status at Pan American and ADCC tournaments, while Butenko, who also holds a black belt in Combat Sambo, is highly regarded on the Russian Sambo circuit. Gunnar Nelson is currently training at the Renzo Gracie Academy in Manhattan. Butenko, who has been ranked as high as #9 among Russian welterweights by

Butenko vs. Nelson will see top billing at Cage Contender 12. Expect the winner to see top contention, with possible consideration to challenge current CC Welterweight Champion Cathal Pendred for the title.
