Bantamweight Boxer Vic Darchinyan Eyes Move to MMA

I rarely believe anything that comes out of Gary Shaw's mouth, but this might actually happen...

Former undisputed World Bantamweight Champion Vic Darchinyan has announced plans to fight MMA. The announcement comes only a day before the Armenian native challenges Anselmo Moreno for the WBA Super World Bantamweight Title. The bout is part of ShoBox's Bantamweight Tournament which also features an IBF Bantamweight Title fight between Abner Mares and Joseph Agbeko.

Although Darchinyan might have to endure the challenges of age at 35, we most likely won't see a James Tony-like fiasco out of this fighter. Darchinyan is still very much youthful and vital. He still has some good years in him and can make a relatively successful transition to mixed martial arts. Of course, he'll have to eat a few more burgers to make the move from 118lbs. to 125, but with the right training, the potential for success isn't too far fetched.
