Around the Pro Circuit: Romanian Prospect Catalin Zmarandescu Is Evolving into a Strong Mixed Martial Artist

Romanian kickboxer-turned-mixed martial artist Catalin Zmarandescu is slowly but surely building steam on the European MMA circuit. At 6-2 in pro MMA competition, the heavyweight fighter's losses are to two recognizable names in Valentijn Overeem, brother to fighting star Alistair Overeem, and "Free Fight" veteran Kamen Georgiev of Bulgaria. Of Zmarandescu's six wins, five are early stoppages (4 TKO's and 1 submission).

Zmarandescu is a K-1 veteran who comes from a decorated martial arts background which includes experience in Muay Thai, Wushu, and wrestling. He has won several major competitions in varying disciplines, to include a bronze medal in kickboxing at the WAKO world cup.

Zmarandescu is set to make his Scandinavian debut this weekend at Cage 16 - 1st Defense. There he will tap gloves with M-1 veteran Jarno Nurminen (5-2) of Finland.

A win this Saturday will definitely help boost Zmarandescu's campaign for a big stage appearance.
