Marloes Coenen Joins Stacked Women's Roster at Black Eye Promotions, Strikeforce Re-Signing Still Possible?

Zuffa may have made their biggest mistake, where it concerns Women's MMA, when they cut Marloes Coenen. Earlier this month, the former Strikeforce Women's Bantamweight Champion was released from the Zuffa payroll along with fellow Golden Glory fighters with Alistair Overeem, Valentijn Overeem, and Jon Olav Einemo (Alistair is in now reported to be in contract negotiations with the UFC).

Blackeye Promotions, a North Carolina-based mixed martial arts promotion, signed Coenen to a non-exclusive contract. Coenen revealed the news on last night's edition of Inside MMA.

Coenen told Inside MMA's Kennny Rice that she is focused on Blackeye promotions right now, but she did not deny the idea of re-signing with Strikeforce.

Blackeye is a smaller regional promotion, but Women's MMA has become their forte. Their next card, Black Eye Promotions 5, shows the strength of their WMMA roster. The card features big WMMA names like Roxanne Modefferri, Erin Toughill, and notable up-and-comers Ediane Gomes and Patricia Vidonic.

“I am very excited to have the opportunity to be part of Blackeye Promotions, as they have an honest passion for the sport and are genuinely committed to building a platform for women in MMA. Equality for women in this sport is a cause close to my heart and important to the generations of women fighters that will compete after me. I am happy to be signed with a promotion that not only supports this quest for equality, but is dedicated and committed to making a difference.”
