China MMA Update: RUFF-China Announces Inaugural Event, RUFF "Genesis" [Press Release]

Any time I receive news out of China, I'm like a kid on Christmas morning, ready to shred into some newspaper-wrapped gifts. Only, instead of opening gifts enclosing hand-me-downs from my older brother, I actually get something that I look forward to.

Today, when I opened my email, I was greeted with news that helped me forget about the traumatic Christmases that never brought me the G.I. Joe with the Kung Fu grip. That news came in the form of a press release from the Ranik Ultimate Fighting Federation, or RUFF China, an upstart mixed martial arts promotion based in Shanghai.

RUFF China propped up back in January. Today they issued a press release to announce their inaugural event, "RUFF - Genesis". The event will be held at the Qizhong Forest Sports City Arena on August 27.

RUFF is backed by the Chinese Wushu Association and has signed fighters from some of the top camps around China, including China Top Team and Ultimate Martial Arts Combat (UMAC).

Press release after the break.

RUFF brings together the best in Chinese MMA for Genesis
Thursday, 04 August 2011.

After scouring the country to find and assess China’s finest MMA talent, the Ranik Ultimate Fighting Federation (RUFF) is finally set to unveil our debut fight, RUFF: Genesis, on August 27th at the Shanghai Qizhong Tennis Center.

Although creating a sports organization like RUFF and developing an MMA sports culture in China has proven to be a considerable challenge, we are pleased and proud to present this fine collection of athletes to the Chinese public, and we are certain that these fighters will help us bring MMA to the forefront of Chinese mainstream sports in the future.

From legendary institutions like Xi’An Sports University, to newer training centers like Beijing’s China Top Team, UMAC and Club Hero MMA culture is alive and well in China, as embodied by these great athletes and their coaches. We are confident that by working with The General Administration of Sport of China and the Wushu Administrative Center, we will reach our goal of bringing world-class MMA to China.

In addition to working with these supportive organizations, schools and fighters, we have also gone to great lengths to ensure that RUFF fights will not only be great sports entertainment, but also feature the finest in safety and integrity, and for this reason we have agreed to terms with reputable North American, C.O.M.M.A.N.D.-certified referee Jerin Valel to officiate matches in our fighting cage.

While we fully expect RUFF: Genesis to be a landmark event in the evolution of Chinese MMA, we remain committed as ever to growing this great sport in China, for China, and it has been our pleasure to provide a top-quality arena for these athletes to showcase their impressive skills and promote the development of Chinese MMA.
