Legendary Pride Referee Yuji Shimada to Ref at Pro Elite's August Event!

Yuji Shimada is an MMA legend. His days officiating for Pride FC put his name in the annals of fight history. Since the days of Pride, Yushida has remained active, officiating mixed martial arts events in Asia and abroad and we will soon see him center cage at Pro Elite's first, post-resurrection event, "ProElite Version 2.0" on August 27.

ProElite Director of Fight Operations, TJ Thompson, announced the addition of Yuji to the ProElite family on Thursday's edition of the Tapout Live Radio show.
"Can I give Tapout Live exclusive Pride information? Decided today referee for Pro Elite "Version 2.0" -- Yuji Shimada.

Yuji was actually Icon Sport's head of officiating as well. So, it only made sense to bring him in. Just got done talking to Rich about that. Gotta get 'em licensed in Hawaii, but we'll have Yuji Shimada in the center of the cage..."
Also on the menu.
TJ Thompson is an experieced promoter who owned the long-running Icon Sports (Super Brawl) in Hawaii. He also discussed the August card, competing with the UFC, and the irony of now working with Rich Chou, who formerly worked with the Penn brothers, promoting rival Hawaiian promotion Rumble on the Rock. Before joining the board of executives at ProElite, Chou was also a matchmaker for Strikeforce.
