Golden Glory Sticks it to Zuffa, Schedules Overeem for October United Glory Card

Okay, we were all wrong (most of us anyway)! Most of the MMA bloggers around the blogosphere, including myself, speculated that Alistair Overeem would either compete in a K-1 or Dream event in October. Overeem was quoted, stating firmly, that he wanted to fight in October:
“I’m going to fight [in] October regardless. If it’s not going to be for Strikeforce, then I’ll fight somewhere. The thing is, there’s other promotions. There’s other stuff I can do. K-1′s going to come back. There’s some good reports on that. There’s some other promotions in the world that would love to have me fight..."
I guess some of us overlooked the very organization that manages 'Reem, Golden Glory, and their promotional affiliate, United Glory.

With FEG making a big push right now, it sure looked like a viable opportunity to stack a K-1 or Dream card with Overeem somewhere at the top. Despite Dream's plans for a late September card, it wouldn't be a far fetched for them to flex dates for one of the biggest MMA stars in Japan -- Alistair Overeem. But now Dream 17 is officially in the books for September 24

As it stands, Overeem will most likely enter the United Glory ring sometime in October. Although a United Glory event poster shows Overeem next to Sergei Kharitonov, a Strikeforce Heavyweight GP semifinalist, Golden Glory trainer/promoter Martijn de Jong told Ariel Helwani that an opponent has not yet been identified for Overeem.
"No opponent named yet but probably a MMA match."
It would be cool to see Kharitonov and Overeem square off in a rubber match. Reem defeated Kharitonov via first round TKO at Pride 31 in 2006. The two met again in 2007 in the Hero's Middleweight Tournament Final with Kharitonov KO'ing Overeem.
