KOTC: Epic Force Results and Highlights

Last night I had the pleasure and honor of welcoming King of the Cage to the Winstar Casino in Thackerville, Oklahoma. The event is the first of a series of events planned between King of the Cage and the Chickasaw Nation.

As for the event, the night couldn't have been better. The production was top notch, and there were no major issues or hold-ups. Of course, a smooth operation is expected from a promotion that has produced more shows than any other in the world.

The fights were amazing! The first five bouts ended in early stoppages -- all in the first round. In fact, the main and co-main events were the only bouts that left the opening round. The top of the card featured two title fights that put the perfect end to a short, but exciting evening.

Since I'm still recovering from the post-fight pleasures of free drinks and gambling, a Cliffs Notes version of the evening's happenings will have to do:

  • As noted above, the first five fights were all first rounders -- four by form of knockout, and one submission.
  • The fight of the night definitely goes to David Roberts who dropped Kirk Gibson in just forty seconds. If you blinked, you missed it.
  • In the co-main event, Jared Papazian defeated Abel Cullum in a closer-than-the-scorecards-reflected match. Papazian utilized cage control to retain the KOTC Flyweight (135 lb.) Title. The loss was Cullum's second in row, the first back-to-back loss scenario in his 22 fight career.
  • The main event was non-stop action between heavyweight title contenders Nick 'Afrozilla' Gaston and Tyler East. Gaston managed to take East's back midway through the first frame, riding him out for much of the first frame. Tyler East returned in the second round with a flurry of punching combinations, but it was one stiff superman punch that dropped Gaston, setting up a fierce hammer fist-lead ground-and-pound situation for the TKO win. After the fight, East attributed his improved technique and fitness to Greg Jackson's camp. If East continues to work with Jackson, I'm sure will see Tyler East fighting on bigger stages.
