It's Showtime Invades Japan

It's Showtime will stage an event in Japan on July 18. The Holland-based kickboxing promotion has teamed up with Japanese Muy Thai promotion REBELS to establish a Japanese division that will promote on K-1 soil.

Wow! It's Showtime is really making an effort to infiltrate the Japanese kickboxing market. Next stop the U.S.?! It's Showtime was looking to put on an event in Oklahoma sometime earlier this year but those plans obviosly fell apart. Meanwhile, the organization has secured a broadcast partnership with HDNet. Now that the organization is making waves in Europe and Asia, and has an American broadcast deal in tow, I'm sure the U.S. has to be on the itinerary somewhere.

This event and It's Showtime's overall project in Japan are still developing. As it stands, the planned July event is a joint venture, and is the first of a series of "countdown" shows leading up to an official It's Showtime event next year. So far, Nightmare of Battle has the inside on It's Showtime's operation in Japan:

It’s Showtime Japan Established! First Event Next Spring
By N.O.B.– May 23, 2011

It was announced today that European Fighting Network’s Simon Rutz and JMD (Japan Martial-arts Directors) have established It’s Showtime Japan.

It’s Showtime Japan will establish Japan rankings and champions in 8 weight classes (61kg, 65kg, 70kg, 77kg, 85kg, 95kg, and Heavyweight). With that an official road to becoming It’s Showtime world champion opens up for Japanese fighters.

It’s Showtime Japan will be registered as a public company one of these days and the representative director will be none other than legendary Japanese Kickboxer and JMD board chairman Toshio Fujiwara (126-13-2 (99KO), Rajadamnern champion).

The first It’s Showtime Japan event will be held next spring but before that countdown events will be held. I’ll post about the first countdown event shortly.
