Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Daley Results and Leftovers in "Business as Usual" Mode

"Bloody bad ass!!!" (in Paul Daley British accent).
I do this after ever fight. Same random shit. You know the drill...

I think I can get used to the new Zuffa-Strikeforce, although we're supposed to still regard it as the regular Strikeforce... I guess it's still "business as usual" and as such, here are my Diaz vs. Daley leftovers:

  • Strikeforce Welterweight Nick Diaz conducted a maul-and-brawl session with British bad boy Paul Daley, finishing the wobbling Englishman in the closing seconds of the first round.  The bout went back-and-forth, as Daley wobbled Diaz (twice actually). Then Diaz wobbled Daley with only about ten seconds on the clock, before Big John stepped in for the stoppage. Anyway, I was kind of hoping for a post-fight brawl, but I forgot Zuffa was running the show now -- no more loose security issues. On an interesting note, after the fight, Diaz gave props to Omar Henry for sparring with him. Funny enough, FightJerk posted an article about Henry, a light middleweight boxer, fighting out of Houston. Last summer, Henry expressed his interest in fighting in the cage. However, this is no longer possible, since Henry signed with boxing promotion Top Rank. At any rate, it made for an interesting article. For further reading click here.
  • Gilbert Melendez made easy work of Tatsuya Kawajiri, notching a TKO victory over the former Shooto Welterweight Champ. It was their second meeting. Melendez defeated Kawajiri at Pride Shockwave 2006. I think I smell a UFC-Strikeforce superfight brewing. We'll let Frankie Edgar and Gray Maynard handle business (for the third time), afterwards I'm sure there will be another "big announcement." Zuffa is big for those these days, but oh yeah, it's "business as usual."
  • Keith "The Dean of Mean" Jardine made his Zuffa return (by way of "business as usual" a.k.a. Strikeforce), fighting former Strikeforce light heavyweight titleholder Gegard Mousasi to a draw. Jardine came in with two wins from regional circuit competition. The bout was Mousasi's first MMA fight since September 2010. He defeated Kyotaro Fujimoto in a K-1 rules bout at FEG's Dynamite 2010 event on New Year's Eve.
  • In a batlle of fancy pants-wearers, Shinya Aoki went spider monkey on Lyle Beerbohm, working his flashy jiu jitsu style to work a rear-naked choke submission in the first round.
