Is Jon Jones the Usain Bolt of MMA?

Yeah, here I go again with my quirky comparisons. . .

He's a "super freak" (in my Rick James voice)
Usain Bolt is the world record holder in the 100m sprint. At 6 feet, 5 inches, his short distance sprinting abilities are phenomenal. The 100m is a race typically lead by more stout athletes -- men within the 5' 8" to 6' 1" range. But Bolt's long lanky frame long, defies the physics of short sprinting. His build is often compared to a horse. Horses are fast animals that have a very slow start, but build speed over distance. Considering this comparison, Usain Bolt should have a very slow start (much like Carl Lewis did), but his raw speed and power combined with elongated limbs and a lean physiqe equate to one thing -- a freak of nature.

Freak of MMA
Enter Jon "Bones" Jones. A junior college wrestling champion, Jones sports the longest reach in UFC history at a whopping 84.5 in. Not surprisingly, Jone's extensive reach is the perfect complement to his unothodox striking style. However, what clearly sets Jones from the competition is his advanced wrestling and progressing ground game. His takedowns and throws have stifled accomplished wrestlers like Matt Hamill and Ryan Bader. Frankly, you don't see too many tall, slender guys suplay Stephan Bonnar or score a double leg takedown on Ryan Bader with ease the way Jones has. In addition, Jones' long limbs will continually complement his ground game as it improves. Imagine getting wrapped in a triangle by Jon Jones' web-like legs.

Jon Jones' body-type resembles any number of your favorite basketball players. In terms of size, at 6'5" and a walk-around weight of about 220, Jon Jones is roughly comparable to Dwayne Wade (6'4", 220 lb). Jones successfully transfers the size and athleticism that athletes like D-Wade and Usain Bolt utilize in their respective sports, to a sport in which length and lankiness can easily translate to awkwardness and clumsiness. He's a wrestler, an unorthodox kickboxer, and an ever-improving grappler. Jon Jones possesses reasonable speed and flexibility, excellent timing and hand-eye coordination, and overall exceptional athleticism. Like Usain Bolt, Jon Jones is an athletic freak of nature.
