Bas Rutten stars in next week's episode of "Lights Out"

If you haven't been keeping up with the new FX series, shame on you.

This is one show that proves just how inaccurate television ratings can actually be. Despite poor ratings, FX's new drama series "Lights Out" is a winner. In case you're just now catching wind of the show, "Lights Out" trails the life of a retired professional boxer, battling the ups and downs of everday life while trying to shake the itch of returning to the ring. Patrick "Lights" Leary, played by Holt McCallany, was once a world champion boxer, but is now a humble trainer in his father's (Stacy Keach) boxing gym. His brother Johnny (Paul Schreiber) is a wreckless boxing manager who loves fast women and money, and his father 'Pops' is a senile gym owner who can't seem to keep himself away from the sport.

So far, Lights has found himself taking street fights and dealing with street characters to keep the lights on. In the last episode Lights helped train a young boxer take on an undefeated champion on late notice. The fight is a much needed one as the gym could be forced to close without a big payday. However, the cocky young Armenian fighter disregards Light's advice not to get too fancy, and is KO'd by his opponent.

Previews for next week's episode show the young Armenian boxer wielding a pistol while demanding his money. I can only assume that Johnny is up to his regular misdealings, and probably had other plans for the fighter's purse money. The next few scenes show shots of MMA legend Bas Rutten. The final frame shows Bas and Lights in a battered rusty cage, which leads me to think that Lights has to fight in an underground fighting event to earn money to save the gym.
