VFC 33 and Fight To Win: Iowa Open Grappling Tournament....The Best of Both Worlds!!
November 1, 2010, 10:14pm

Victory Fighting Championship returns to the Mid-America Center in Council Bluffs for VFC 33 on Saturday, December 11 for a night with three BIG FIGHTS featuring one of Omaha's favorite fighters and TWO Championship bouts.

Nick Mamalis (16-6), the current VFC Bantamweight Champion, will fight M-1 and ShowXC veteran Josh "The Rage" Rave for the 135lb Title. One of MMA fans' favorite fighters to "boo" Joe "The Nose" Wilk will take to the cage to face fellow submission ace Aaron Steele for the VFC 145 lb Title. In the third co-feature fight, Omaha’s own Drew Dober (3-2) will look to continue his well documented rise as one of the nation’s top young fighters as he takes on Kansas City’s Kody Franks (3-1), a fighter who has gained recognition as an equally promising up and comer. Rounding out the main card Joel Mickells and Patrick Osborn will square off to see which one is ready to step up to the VFC's deep featherweight division.

Current VFC Bantamweight Champion Nick Mamalis trains in the high altitude of the Grudge Training Center in Denver Colorado and has elevated his game alongside such MMA standouts as Joe Warren, Rashad Evans, Duane Ludwig, Nate Marquardt, and Shane Carwin. Having already ascended to a place on the national stage in the Bellator Fighting Championship promotion, and testing himself against some of the best in the division such as Raphael Assuncao and Tyler Toner, Mamalis is looking to stay atop the VFC's Bantamweight Division.

Josh "The Rage" Rave is an experienced veteran with 19 career victories training out of Premier Combat Center in Omaha. The exciting fighter brings a well rounded skill-set complete with a wrestling back ground, crisp striking and several submission victories to his credit. VFC fans, no doubt, remember Rave's highlight-reel flying knee that KO'd A.J. Van Camp in his last VFC appearance.

Aaron Steele, a Gracie Barra Purple Belt, has lived, trained, and competed in Brazil but currently calls Omaha's Premier Combat Center home. The two time North American Grappling Association (NAGA) Gold Medalist has made several appearances in the VFC dating all the way back to VFC 8 in 2004. He will pit his excellent submission game against an equally decorated grappler for the vacant VFC 145lb title.

Joe Wilk (9-4) is a Gracie Barra Brown belt. A Black Belt in getting a reaction from a crowd, Wilk excels at turning high level grappling into entertaining fights. The VFC and Srikeforce Challenger Series veteran, is guaranteed to cook up a memorable championship bout while stirring the pot.

Drew Dober carried a perfect record and steamrolled through all competition to become the nation’s number one amateur lightweight. Now a successful pro, Dober is looking to ride the momentum he gained from his second round stoppage win over Jimmy Seipel at VFC 32 as he collides with VFC first timer Kody Franks. The winner of FIGHT! Magazine’s Full Time Fighter contest, Dober has experienced training at the highest level of the sport at gyms such as Xtreme Couture and Team Quest. The Mid-America Martial Arts product will look to put his celebrated Muay Thai skills on display in another high energy performance.

The Undercard will feature Mirsad Bektic (6-0) coming off his most recent knockout win. Three time VFC veteran Brian Houston will look to add another victory to his 6-1 record. Omaha's Summer Artherton (2-1) will face Star Kessler (1-0) our of Cheyenne, WY. The aggressive Corey Clinebell (8-4) returns to the VFC, and Sioux Falls' Kuchlong Kuchlong (1-0) faces Josh Pfeifer (3-0).
