MFC 27: Lima and Ford Destined for Rematch, Fight for Spotlight

Fighters Doug Lima and Jesse Juarez face off at MFC 27 weigh-ins.
The Maximum Fight Championships crowned a new welterweight champion in Brazilian rising star Douglas Lima. His opponent Jesse Juarez dominated the first two rounds with takedowns, but Lima emerged in the third round with a trick-up-the-sleeve triangle choke, drawing the tap in 2:37.

Meanwhile, in other welterweight action, MFC posterboy Ryan Ford defeated long time rival Pete Spratt in a highly antipated rematch. Spratt found himself in an all too familiar situation as Ford once again utilized a rear-naked-choke defeat his arch nemesis.

Doug Lima defeated Ryan Ford at the previous Maximum FC event, MFC 26. The event was Ford's prodigal son return following a year-long hiatus from the MFC. However, Ford's victory over Spratt last night could put him back on the path to contention, possibly leading to a future rematch with Lima. Lima's recent double wins with the MFC have garnered heavy media attention for the young American Top Team member. A Ford-Lima rematch for the MFC welterweight title would be a fight, not only for the strap but also for the media spotlight.
