Prospect Lens: Who Is Roy Boughton?

While Cain Velasquez stunned the MMA world by pummelling Brock Lesnar at UFC 121 last weekend, another surprising victory was taking place north of the border. Last weekend in Halifax, Nova Scotia rising mixed martial arts prospect Roy Boughton defeated well-known Pride veteran and former middleweight champion of the now defunct Elite XC Murilo "Ninja" Rua at Warrior-1: "New Ground". Following a close first round, Boughton used a mix of takedowns and effective positioning to outscore Rua in the last two rounds to take home a unanimous decision victory. The Caesar Gracie, "Team Black" member is no stranger to tough competition. At 5-1, Boughton's win column includes two victories in the IFC 27 four-man light heavyweight tournament, and a surprise armbar submission win over highly credentialed Canadian grappling specialist Misha Cirkunov.
