MFC 26 Nothing Short of a Thriller: McKee Finishes Early, Ford Submitted

Mark Pavelich's Maximum Fighting Championships delivered a thrilling evening of nonstop mixed martial arts action before a packed house at the River Cree Resort in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The event, which was also aired on HDNet, featured some popular names in MMA to include rising Canadian welterweight Ryan Ford and current MFC Lightweight Champion Antonio McKee in the co-main events, and The Ultimate Fighter alum Jesse Taylor in middleweight action.

Answering the call and challenge of critics who have scrutinized his decision-winning fighting style, Antonio McKee finished Luciano Azevedo early in the first round. McKee, the reigning MFC Lightweight Champion, used his usual takedown plan to take Azevedo to the canvas with ease, following up with an elbow driven attack that opened a blood gushing cut over the left eye of Azevedo. In a post-fight interview McKee thanked HDNet Fights president Guy Mezger for motivating him and, in usual Antonio McKee fashion, he called out UFC 155lbers BJ Penn and Sean Sherk. View the video of McKee's match below.

In the co-main event American Top Team member Douglas Lima embarrassed Canadian star Ryan Ford before Ford's own Edmonton home crowd, delivering Ford (12-3) his third career loss by way of submission. Lima worked an active guard, nullifying Ryan Ford's powerful ground-and-pound game in the first round. Lima continued his guard strategy, putting on a submission clinic before finally securing an arm bar, and drawing the tap :48 seconds into the second round. The highly skilled but largely underwritten Douglas Lima now places his name in the contention mix for the MFC Welterweight belt, currently worn by KOTC and WEC veteran John 'The Natural' Alessio.
